Mechanism of action^1,2

VISUTRAX^® contains travoprost, a substance belonging to a group of medicines called prostaglandin analogues.

Prostaglandin F2a analogue, is a highly selective full agonist which has a high affinity for the prostaglandin FP receptor and reduces the intraocular pressure by increasing the outflow of aqueous humour via trabecular meshwork and uveoscleral pathways.

Reduction of the intraocular pressure in man starts about 2 hours after administration and maximum effect is reached after 12 hours. Significant lowering of intraocular pressure can be maintained for periods exceeding 24 hours with a single dose.

Posology¹

The dose is one drop of VISUTRAX^® in the conjunctival sac of the affected eye(s) once daily. Optimal effect is obtained if the dose is administered in the evening.

Content pack¹

Single-dose polyethylene containers. Pack with 30 single-dose containers of 0.1 ml. Store in the original package in order to protect from light. Use within 4 weeks after first opening.

After first opening of the aluminium sachet, store below 25°C and use within 7 days; residual containers should be discarded.

Mechanism of action¹

VisuPLAIN^® contains bimatoprost, a potent ocular hypotensive agent. It is a synthetic prostamide, structurally related to prostaglandin F2α (PGF2α), that does not act through any known prostaglandin receptors.

Bimatoprost selectively mimics the effects of newly discovered biosynthesised substances called prostamides.

The mechanism of action by which bimatoprost reduces intraocular pressure in humans is by:

Reduction of the intraocular pressure starts approximately 4 hours after the first administration and maximum effect is reached within approximately 8 to 12 hours. The duration of effect is maintained for at least 24 hours.

Posology¹

The recommended dose of VisuPLAIN^® is one drop in the affected eye(s) once daily, administered in the evening. The dose should not exceed once daily, as more frequent administration may lessen the intraocular pressure lowering effect.

Mechanism of action¹

Glaucopt^® single-dose contains two active substances: dorzolamide
hydrochloride and timolol maleate. Each of these active substances reduces
the high IOP by decreasing the secretion of aqueous humour but does so
by a different mechanism of action.

• Dorzolamide hydrochloride is a potent inhibitor of human carbonic anhydrase
  The inhibition of carbonic anhydrase in the ciliary processes of the eye reduces aqueous humour secretion presumably by slowing the formation of bicarbonate ions, with a subsequent reduction in the transport of sodium and fluids.
• Timolol maleate is a non-selective beta-adrenergic receptor blocking agent
  The precise mechanism of action of timolol maleate in lowering IOP has not been clearly established, although a study with fluorescein and tonography studies indicate that the predominant action may be related to the reduced formation of aqueous humour. However, in some studies a slight increase in the ease of outflow was also observed.

The combined effect of these two active substances results in additional
reduction in IOP when compared with either of the active substances
administered alone.

Posology¹

The recommended dose is one drop of Glaucopt® single-dose in the conjunctival sac of each affected eye twice a day.

Content pack¹

Single-dose polyethylene containers. Pack with 60 single-dose containers of 0.166 ml. Pack contains 12 pouches, each pouch containing one strip of 5 single-dose containers. Store in the original package in order to protect from light.

After opening the aluminium bag, use the containers within 7 days. Any unused containers must be discarded. The single-dose container must be used immediately after opening; the remaining medicinal product must be discarded.

Mechanism of action¹

VisuBLEND^® consists of two active substances: bimatoprost and timolol. These two components decrease elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) by complementary mechanisms of action and the combined effect results in additional IOP reduction compared to either compound administered alone. Bimatoprost + timolol has a rapid onset of action.
